Living in solitude

Living in solitude in the mountains has its merits, but watching Grand Designs on Channel 4 last night made me wonder if I would have the strength to do it. A couple were rebuilding a 300 year old stone cottage on a welsh hillside through the winter in freezing temperatures, wind and foot and mouth disease. To remain in the valley their family had lived in was a labour of love and inspirational to watch. The renovation used traditional techniques as required by national trust restrictions who encourage re-habitation of abandoned dwellings.
